Su coloraci\u00f3n var\u00eda mucho, las m\u00e1s comunes son verdes con manchas negras.\r\nSu piel es totalmente permeable, cualquier superficie acu\u00e1tica puede constituir su h\u00e1bitat, pudiendo frecuentar tambi\u00e9n zonas con un cierto grado de contaminaci\u00f3n.\r\nEsta permeabilidad de la piel, si bien desempe\u00f1a un papel fundamental en el proceso de intercambio de gases respiratorios, le hace estar constantemente expuesta a la contaminaci\u00f3n de agua y de aire.\r\nLa <a href=\"\/anfibios\">rana<\/a> com\u00fan, como otras ranas verdes europeas, presenta un proceso evolutivo poco com\u00fan en los vertebrados, un mecanismo reproductor denominado hibridog\u00e9nesis: que dos especies se crucen dando lugar a h\u00edbridos que, en general, no dan descendencia viable si se cruzan entre s\u00ed. Sin embargo, estos h\u00edbridos pueden retrocruzarse con una especie parental, dando lugar a nuevos h\u00edbridos.
